National pump hire, rental and distribution specialist, Selwood, headquartered in Hampshire and serving a nationwide network of 25 locations, has expanded its DAF multi-axle rigid fleet with the delivery six new DAF CFs. The trucks, supplied by Lancashire DAF in Preston, consist of 6x2 rear-steer 26-tonners and a four-axle 8x2 rear-steer.

Selwood is a global industrial pump manufacturer, and the UK’s leading pump rental provider. The company also supplies plant and equipment for sale and hire to the construction sector.

The decision to select DAF was prompted by previous positive in-service experience and excellent feedback from Selwood drivers. The latest delivery follows a similar earlier intake of DAF vehicles, confirming Selwood’s shift to the market-leading DAF brand and away from its existing truck supplier. Total fleet includes 55 LGV trucks, 171  LCV’s  and 127 cars.

The new 410bhp DAF CF eight-wheeler joins three existing four-axle rigids – all benefitting from DAF’s ‘FAX’ 8x2 axle configuration, which the company describes as offering an ideal low-profile flat-bed platform. Latest truck deliveries include beavertail and flatbed bodywork from PPS Commercials in Bury, with three of the 26-tonne 6x2 CFs equipped with cranes supplied by Hiab.

“We’re seeing better productivity returns from the eight-wheelers,” said Selwood’s Head of Transport, Paul Green, “the higher carrying capacity coupled with excellent manoeuvrability mean the DAF ‘FAX’ set-up is ideal for our operation. Drivers are really enthusiastic too,” he said, “the 370bhp engines on the 26-tonners represent a boost in power over our previous truck-brand, which they appreciate.

“We’re impressed with the DAF product and the aftersales support, hence the increasing presence on our fleet. We’re especially pleased with the back-up from Lancashire DAF. They’re always on hand to help with any issues.”

The inclusion of this DAF order brings the total of Euro-6 compliant trucks in the Selwood fleet to 95%. The van fleet will be 70% Euro-6 compliant while 75% of the car fleet has now moved away from diesel and onto PHEV or EV, meeting compliance strategies for various Clean Air Zones being introduced in the UK.
